Summary The Fish and Wildlife Department Director provides the planning, organization, coordination, monitoring, and direction necessary to ensure effective operation of the Tribe’s Fish and Wildlife Department. The Fish and Wildlife Director guides implementation of projects that address fish and wildlife restoration, habitat improvement, and biological monitoring. This position promotes effective operations and programs based on existing Tribal goals, strategies, and objectives, within compliance with all applicable Tribal and Federal policies, regulations, and procedures. 1Minimum Qualifications 1. Support the Tribe’s vision, mission, and core values. 2. Master’s Degree in Fish and Wildlife Management (related field) or Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Management (related field) including at least two years of demonstrable professional experience closely related to wildlife or fisheries management activities and other essential duties of this position. 3. Have a minimum of ten years of experience in managing fish and wildlife programs. Experience working with Indigenous Nations highly desirable. 4. Excellent knowledge and understanding of fish and wildlife habitats, local flora and fauna (native and exotic) and wetland and riparian communities. Have knowledge of the Kootenai Tribe and Ktunaxa Territory highly desirable. 5. Excellent professional and technical writing skills. 6. Skilled in the application of computers and various software packages essential to performance of job duties. 7. Excellent oral and written communications skills with clear ability to work effectively with a diverse group of colleagues and audiences inclusive of co-workers, government and public officials, Tribal citizens, local businesses and industry groups, and various members of the general public. 8. Must be in good physical condition and able to perform strenuous field activities under inclement weather conditions. 9. Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, be insurable by the Tribe’s insurance carrier, and admissible for entry into Canada.
